Dear Brothers of DKE,
I am writing to share Theta Zeta’s recent accomplishments, beginning with DKE’s biennial Convention that took place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last July. Our generous alumni board footed the bill for past president Lee Rumpf and myself to attend, where we had the opportunity to get to know Dekes from across the United States and Canada. At the impressive Psi house, Lee and I accepted the 2011 Scholarship Award on behalf of Theta Zeta, which is awarded to the chapter with the highest average GPA in that academic year.
Implementing the recruitment practices we learned at convention, Theta Zeta kicked off last fall with one of the most successful rushes in recent history. We initiated 12 men, including members of the Cal Swim team, Cal Crew team, and Cal Lacrosse team. This pledge class is full of future leaders for the chapter, and are all very passionate about DKE.
During fall semester we were thrilled to welcome our alumni back for the return of football to Memorial Stadium. We also hosted our families in November for the highly attended Parent’s Dinner, where brothers and their parents were treated to a gourmet meal catered by our chef. This annual event is a great tradition, and offers our parents the opportunity to see our beautiful house, to observe our strong brotherhood, and to become involved with DKE.
The last few months have seen many improvements to our house. Both the first floor and the President’s room have brand new bathrooms, and many areas of the house received a much-needed new coat of paint. The stairs leading to the third floor have been refurbished, and the third floor has fresh new carpet.
This spring semester began with another successful rush. Our pledge class is 8 strong, and includes another impressive athlete from the Cal Swim team. Representative of the rest of the chapter, this pledge class includes pre-Haas, engineering, economics, and science majors.
The brothers at Theta Zeta continue to excel in their academic studies, continue to be leaders in their student organizations and sports teams, and continue to enjoy a camaraderie that is unparalleled across campus.
In the Bonds,
